Lancaster & Morecambe hockey club actually started out as Morecambe and District Hockey club, which was formed in 1985 following the success of Great Britain in the Olympics. A couple of enthusiasts placed an advert in the Lancaster Guardian to attract men who might be interested in starting a Hockey Team.
Initially the club was based at Morecambe Cricket Club, and by the end of the 1985/86 season there were enough players to run two teams! The club organised its first tournament in September 1988, with some 22 Men's teams taking part. In the spring of 1992 the club formed a ladies section and entered the Lancashire Central Women's Hockey Association. A Ladies 2nd XI was formed in 1993/94.
In 2012 Morecambe and District Hockey club made the decision to "re-brand" and change the club name to Lancaster and Morecambe Hockey Club. Fast forward to 2022, LMHC is still based at Cumbria University Hockey Complex and fields 1 Men’s Teams, 2 Ladies Teams, a Vets squad and a thriving Junior Section.
The junior section ranges from 6 year olds to 13 year olds and is a great way for children to start their hockey career. MS sports coaching is proud to lead these session! With 10 year of hockey coaching experience and being recognised by England Hockey for Mike’s coaching qualities, we are always looking to develop the junior section and help children maximise their potential, to the best of their abilities.
During the sessions, the main emphasis is on having fun, but also to help children learn basic skills including; dribbling, tackling, passing, shooting and game play. Lancaster and Morecambe Junior section currently has an Under 8’s, Under 10’s and Under 12’s team, who all compete in regular competitions.
In 2024 MS Sports Coaching became sponsor of Lancaster and Morecambe Junior and contributed to new kits for all the juniors.
